Is There Even Such a Thing as a Healthy Stag Party?

In line with the recent marathon Boston incident, here’s a little something for marathon runners. Those that have chosen to maintain a healthier lifestyle might find these tips useful as well.

Men in their twenties and thirties know how it’s like to be invited to a stag party left and right. After all, at that age, a lot of one’s friends start settling down which does call for such parties. Though most men will not have a problem enjoying such an occasion, some men with strict training regimens might have a problem. Still, if a close friend is getting married, not attending will not be an option.

Is there such a thing as a healthy stag party? That probably exists in the field of dreams, but in reality, there really isn’t such a thing. So, what can some men do about it? Here are some tips to maintain one’s fitness level despite attending one stag party after another.

Cross Training

Most marathon runners keep a strict fitness regimen to stay in good condition even when they are not exactly joining a marathon anytime soon. Cross training can be one good option to stay fit as it will allow them to maintain the aerobic fitness and condition.

Swimming and cycling are good alternative for cross training. A summer stag party or weekend by the beach will not be such a bad idea as one might get some time to actually swim. Swimming for thirty to sixty minutes will definitely help anyone stay in shape.

Be Safe

Stag parties tend to involve popular stag do activities like paintballing, quad biking, gorge walking, and at times, other extreme sports. As an athlete, you’d know that any sort of injury will directly mess with your training. To be on the safe side, try to save the drinking part for the evening.

By not drinking alcohol before such activities, you can avoid drunken injuries. Remember, a broken wrist, twisted ankle, or ruptured tendon can be bad for training.

Be Sensible

If you’re just a guest to the stag party, you can choose to drink more sensibly. This means choosing alcoholic beverages that are lower in alcohol content. It helps to know your limits as well. If you do, be sensible enough not go beyond that.

All of that might be impossible if you’re the one celebrating your stag party. But, as a close friend of the groom-to-be, you do not really have to drink as much or as heavily as the rest of the group.

Make sure that you’re properly hydrated as well and drink lots of water. Better yet, get some protein powder and make a protein shake before going out with the rest of the guys. Once you get back from a night on the town, you can drink it before going to bed to make sure your body gets something good to work with somehow.

All of this will also apply to women that will be attending hen parties or hen weekends. Just remember, have fun, but keep your wits about you and maintain your fitness level at the same time.
