What About Joint Hen and Stag Parties

A lot of people tend to do what popular celebrities do and that includes celebrating their hen or stag party in style. The past few weeks, celebrity news was abuzz with Rihanna and Chris Brown’s impending nuptials in Barbados. Moreover, that the couple will be celebrating a joint stag and hen party with their closest friends.

Hen and stag or “Hag” parties are not that uncommon, but not a lot of couples actually do it. Why? There could be so many reasons why joint parties are not that ideal. Though such a party will also have its advantages.

Chris and Rihanna’s Bash

After Riri finishes the European leg of her world tour, their two-week joint hen and stag party will start. The couple decided that sailing off into the sunset with their closest friends is the best way to celebrate their last moments of freedom. Their destination is the south of France.

For two weeks, they will be cruising to various destinations like Corsica and Monaco. That two-week event will be like a 24-hour-a-day party. Hopefully, their guests have enough stamina to party throughout the whole affair.

After their joint party, the couple plans to get married in Barbados. The wedding will take place this summer, on July.

The Pros and Cons

For some couples, having a hag party or hag do is much better as it might allow them to save some money. Of course, if the couple does decide to have something as elaborate as Rihanna and Chris Brown’s two-week celebration, the cost can really get high. However, much simpler celebrations might be more affordable for others.

One other advantage of having a joint party is the fact that no one has to keep any secret. The couple will be together throughout the celebration and there’s no need to hide or lie about what happened during the stag or hen party.

A major disadvantage would be the fact that the couple will have to reach a compromise on the activities involved. As opposed to having a single celebration where the stag or hen can choose certain activities that he or she loves, a joint party will require the same set of activities for both of them.

With that in mind, the amount of guests can also be a problem. A joint party means more people that might not even know each other so well. Though that may also be true for traditional stag or hen parties, a joint celebration means more people to entertain. It certainly makes it a bit more difficult to come up with games and activities that all the guests will enjoy.

Veer Off Tradition and Have a Classy Stag Party

It may or may not be what Marx meant as a vicious cycle, but history does tend to repeat itself. What does that have to do with stag parties? It does have a lot to do with it especially when one really looks at the history of how such parties came to be.

Nowadays, most stag parties involve pranks that tend to humiliate or embarrass the celebrant. Though some men would be cool about such antics, not everyone will appreciate it. Stag parties are not meant to be traumatic experiences, but most organizers seem to think that coming up with more outrageous antics will make it better.

 

As far back as 5^th century BC, Spartans were already celebrating such parties. They would have a dinner for the stag on the night before the big day. They’d be drinking, eating, and toasting all night long. There could have been some sort of entertainment as well, but no “fun” at the groom-to-be’s expense.

That tradition actually continued until the 1940s and 1950s. It was not until a few decades after that the usual dinner turned into a “party.” It was during that time that stag groups started to do virtually everything that’s forbidden once the celebrant gets married. Strippers, consuming lots of alcohol, and gambling replaced the dinner and toasts of the past.

Hollywood’s Influence

Without a doubt, most of people’s concept of “partying” is largely influenced by Hollywood and how celebrities party. Movies of bachelor parties served as the “ideal” party for a lot of folks. Though life imitates art and the reverse is also true, the result can be seen nowadays. Some even hit the news due to the nature of such parties and brawls that result from them.

As mentioned earlier, most party planners try to come up with the craziest ideas that does not always take into consideration what the groom-to-be wants. That practice should not continue. That is also true for hen parties.

Back to Basics

Going back to basics does not equate to something boring. The reason why the celebrant’s wishes should be taken into consideration is because the whole event should be his idea of fun. Any activity that he enjoys with his closest buds should make the event fun as it is.

If the traditional dinner and toast is not enough, a lot of stag groups also choose to enjoy certain activities that are not necessarily wild, but they are definitely fun. Popular stag do activities include paintballing, go kart racing, quad biking, and clay shooting.

There are a lot of other nighttime stag party activities to enjoy as well. One does not have limit oneself to pub crawling and literally crawling from drunkenness.

A Stag Party in a Reality TV Show

In a few weeks, the reality television show Geordie Shore will be airing its fifth season. Since the stars are engaged, the viewers will get the chance to witness the groom-to-be and bride-to-be’s stag and hen do in the comfort of their own home.

Everyone that watches MTV in the United Kingdom will know about Geordie Shore. From the show title, you can safely assume that this show is based in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is actually a British adaptation of the American TV show Jersey Shore. Since it premiered last May 24, 2011, it continued to be a big hit, not just in the UK, but all over the world.

Fans Get Up Close and Personal

According to MTV, this show will be bringing the audience to Tignes, Prague, Barcelona, and Amsterdam for the engaged couple’s hen and stag party celebration. Fans of the show will really have a lot to look forward to. In the past, the show did go to international locations like Magaluf and even Mexico.

Parties are actually nothing special to this show as the cast is often seen partying everywhere. However, that’s also why fans probably have a lot to look forward to. The stag and hen do celebration of the couple should be even better than their usual parties.

Filming for season five actually started on November 14, 2012. However, the new season will start on February 19, 2013.

A Happily Ever After Ending

Throughout the course of their relationship, fans have seen bride-to-be Vicky argue with her fiancé Ricci. That begs the question, will it be a fairy tale like ending for the couple? Fans will have to wait and see.

Ordinary folks’ stag night activities already affect the relationship in a bad way when the activities are shared on Facebook and Twitter. For this reality TV show couple, it will be even worse as the whole world can actually see them go wild.

Fans even get to see their arguments aired on the television. Such a thing can have a negative effect on their relationship. Still, hopeless romantics would say that… “if they’re meant to be, they’re meant to be together.” Hopefully, they do stay together and get their “happily ever after.”

Television shows and movies tend to have happy endings. Of course, with a reality TV show, it can be quite unpredictable. Fans will have to wait and see what will happen during season five.
